Opening Weekend Practices Come to a Close
11/29/08
The Chatham Girl's Basketball Team concluded their 4 practice, 10 hour double session Thanksgiving Weekend practices Saturday evening. The large returning senior group demonstrated exceptional leadership and hard work throughout all of the weekend's drills and conditioning. The sophomores and junior classes stepped up the competitiveness, as they compete for slots on the varsity and junior varsity teams. Impressively, 10 out of 16 freshman who signed up for basketball this season tried out this weekend. Although only 5 made the upper level teams, this group made the decision making process extremely difficult and tight. The freshman team this year will be highly competitive and will need to develop quickly as they will be looked upon to replace the nine seniors graduating this Spring.

Cougars Return from Another Successful University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill Team Camp
7/13/08
The Chatham Girls' Basketball program returned from their 5 day trip to University of North Carolina late Sunday night. 27 players along with the three coaches composed the three teams that competed in the highly competitive team camp.
After
spending a day at King's Dominion in Virginia, Chatham made the 2 hour trek from their hotel in Richmond to Chapel Hill, NC, where they checked into Carolina's Finest Team Camp. Coach Sylvia Hatchell runs one of the most competitive high school team camps in the US.
The varsity entered the A flight of competition and faced teams from all over the United States. Teams from Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Arizona, Illinois. The Cougars more than held their own completing a 6-3 campaign against teams with an average school size around 2000 students. The four day camp ended with the varsity earning the 'best shooting' team award for the Varsity A flight. the JV, playing in the Varsity D flight also finished up 6-3 and was selected the 'best rebounding' team. Our incoming freshman, playing in the JV A division, finished up 5-5, and earned the 'sportsmanship' award. View a selection of our photos from our UNC gallery
